Post partum recovery - Hair update

Things have been good in the post partum department for me this time around. Even my hair, which was seriously damaged after my first baby, has been doing really well so far. I am only 7 weeks post partum so there is still time for something to happen but so far so good.

Last time I started noticing post partum shedding around 7 weeks and by 3 months I felt bald. This time around I decided to focus on keeping my hair moisturized often. I have been baggying almost every other day for the first month after I had the baby. When I was not baggying, my hair was usually in a ponytail. I mostly left my hair out whenever I had visitors and when I was air drying.

Here are my edges at 1 month post partum, still looking good for now

I got my hair relaxed around 6 weeks post partum and got a trim. I was really pleased to see that I didn't lose any volume.

I have been wearing my hair out more since my relaxer over a week ago. I like that I actually have more time to do something with it. It's mostly in curls from flexi rods or straight from being air dried. I got my hair straightened when I relaxed but forgot to take pictures (can you believe that).

I have a new love affair with flexi rods. They give the hair much needed volume with waves and they are so easy to do. Best of all they don't require any heat. I usually put 5 flexi rods in my hair at night and unravel them in the morning. I can wear my hair that way for 2 days before I need to redo it. It's my new go to style

Overall things have been going well in the hair department. I hope that things continue this way. I will do a length check at the end of the year when I get my next relaxer. I am getting so close to my goal of healthy relaxed waist length hair. I am probably only about 3 to 4 inches away, I hope to be there next Summer.

  2. You're doing a great job! Thanks for posting this cause I am trying to figure out what to do with my hair pre and post partum.

I am scheduled to get my next texlax on the 20th (it'll be 20-weeks since my last texlax). My thinking was that it'll make my hair more manageable for after baby comes. But now I am wondering if I should wait until after to get it done. My only concern is that I might not have enough time to go get it done after she arrives. Thoughts?

    1. My hair has been a work in progress and lot has been play it by ear kinda thing. I can't believe that you can stretch to 20 weeks, that's awesome. I'll tell you more on my thoughts on your blog.

  3. Your hair looks so healthy. I've never tried flexi rods before. Your hair looks great. I had lots of shedding with my 2nd. I'm hoping I don't get it as bad this time around.

    1. Keya, I love your hair. You are definitely on my idol list :). I am so pleased that you think that my hair looks great.

I had lots of shedding with my first and I am anticipating some shedding this time around. We'll see. My hair has been doing really well since I started my hair journey over a year ago.
