Post partum recovery - Haircut

I finally got my hair relaxed last week. My hair was so damaged and uneven from all the shedding that I had to cut about 3 inches to even things out. I am now back to APL a long way away from waist length (insert sad face). Despite the shedding and cut, I am overall happy with the state of my hair. It's not as bad as it was with Tman and it still feels somewhat long. I am looking forward to the end of the shedding and hair growing again.

I am thinking of braiding my hair so that I don't have to see all the hair falling everyday. My cousin has these super cute braids and I kinda want to do something like this. Here she is with Jbird.

My new length, my ends look much better after the trim. I am happy with the overall state of my hair.

I officially have a receding hairline. My right side is the worst. I have an actual patch of hair missing, gotta love a bald spot (I am being sarcastic of course)

Luckily for me I figured out a way to style my hair in a way that would hide the bald spot. This allows me to wear my hair out without shame. My hair is thinner but it works. I might get away with not wearing a wig this time around but I am not holding my breath.
My post partum recovery has been awesome except for this hair loss business. I have whined so much to hubby about it that he came up with this great suggestion "why don't you just shave it all until we are done having kids." Men I tell you. I will not be following that advice.

My Jbird is worth it all. I am hating the hair loss but loving this sweet face.
So this is where we are at 4 months post partum. Did any of you moms experience post partum shedding? Was it dramatic? How did you manage it?

  1. I never noticed that I was losing hair because right before I had my babies, I cut my hair super short. While they were little my hair grew long.

    1. Sharon - I am such a chicken. Cutting it now would probably be the smart thing to do.

  2. Your hair still looks amazing and the cut is very flaterring to you! I notice some post-partum hair loss around my edges but my hair is all weaved up so I can't really survey the damage just yet. I'm pretty sure my forcing of a relaxer on my head as soon as I popped out Ian wasn't the best idea so I'm fully prepared to lose the few strands on my head. *le sigh* I'll be following your pp hair journey for tips and advice.

    1. Thanks Josie. Post partum shedding is a b****. Luckily for us the hair does grow back eventually probably just in time to get pregnant again :).

    1. J that's exactly how I feel. I am too lazy to sit down for more than 4 hours to get them done then again to get them undone.

  4. I've heard a lot of stories about post-partum hair loss but I'm hoping it's not too bad for me :/

Your hair looks really healthy in the pic and is still quite long, it looks good!

    2. Luckily not everyone experiences the post partum shedding. I hope that you are one of the lucky ones. The positive thing is that it's temporary.

  5. Even with the shedding, your hair looks great, mine is so thin it looks like I'm balding, and I haven't even had a baby :(. I have my hair in braids for most of the year, just so I don't have to see my bald spots :)

  7. hey pegster!!

sorry about the pp hair loss but your boys are well worth it. I want to have 2 boys - twins if possible and i am mighty jealous of you now.
Use castor oil on your edges. It helped me retain my hair when i was balding from constantly braiding.

    1. Kasi - Thanks for stopping by my blog and thanks for the compliment on my boys. I already have the JBCO and I am doing nightly hair massages. I hope it works.

  8. Your haircut is beautiful, and still very long. I had post partum shedding on my temples with both kids. It came back after about 3 months.
