Costa Rica or Jamaica - help us choose

I need your help friends. Please help me choose between a trip to Costa Rica or Jamaica. We are in a bit of a pickle

So my mom volunteered to watch the kids for us for a week in July so that we can celebrate our anniversary. We decided to go all out and do something a little adventurous.

That's when we decided on Costa Rica. Then we started shopping around for tickets, hotels and all and realized how expensive it was so we decided to forego that plan and go for something more inclusive and a bit more affordable.

That's when Jamaica came into play. We figured it would be a fun relaxing all inclusive vacation under the sun and actually got really excited about the idea. We found the perfect hotel with great reviews and everything.

Well, today I found a great groupon deal for a guided tour to Costa Rica including airfare, hotel, and bus transfer for the same price as the trip to Jamaica. Normally we would have jumped on it but we've never done guided tours so we don't know what to expect and the departure date is on Tman's birthday.

So you see, we are unsure if we should just go for it. Have you done guided tours? worth it? I would be bummed to leave on Tman's birthday but I am thinking that since we planned to celebrate the day before anyway it shouldn't be a big deal plus it's not like he knows the exact date of his birthday.

So there is our pickle, Costa Rica or Jamaica??? What do you think.

  1. I've never been to Costa Rica so I'm not sure if my opinion will count for much. But I went to Montego Bay for our honeymoon and it was amazing! Jamaica for sure!!

Oh and Tman won't know but you will.

    Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica, haha =)

  2. So, at first I was thinking because Costa Rica was first on your list you should just do it! I've never done a guided tour so I have absolutely no opinion on that but I would be bummed to leave on my son's birthday. Since he will be 3 I say celebrate his birthday before you leave that way he still "knows" something went on and take tons of pics (like you would have that problem, lol!) so he will be able to look back on it later.

But then I was thinking "but it's his birthday!!" I'm all sentimental like that though and I would go with Jamaica.

I'm sorry- I was no help at all. BTW... I got the gc!!!

  4. Jamaica! When I first started travelling, I did a lot of guided tours. They are just ok. I didn't like the time restrictions as far as being at certain places at a set time. Made it hard to just get up and go when you want to.
Just my 2 cents. They are both good locations though and you can't go wrong with either.

  5. I've never been to either place, but my heart says Jamaica. I can imagine my feet in the sandy beach.

  6. Guided tours can put a cramp on your adventures. You seem to be the kind to want to do ur own thing with hubby so I'd say go to jamaica now and costa rica another time!

  11. I vote for Jamaica. I feel you and your hubby are very adventurous, so a guided tour may not afford you that opportunity to be spontaneous and explore. Either way, I am sure you'll have fun!
